Description | Part of a series of manuscripts (NLS MSS. 8335-50) which contains correspondence and administrative papers, 1782-3, including drafts, copies and extracts, originally arranged in sixteen bundles by James Stuart. This original arrangement is undisturbed, each bundle forming one of the volumes of this series. The correspondence is between James Stuart, as Commander-in-Chief of the East India Company's forces based on Fort St George (Madras), officials of the Company, and officers of the army; it concerns the day-to-day administration of the forces under Stuart's command, general administration of the Madras Presidency, and local politics. |
